About

Josh grew up at Wappapello Lake, Missouri, on an 8400 acre Corps of Engineer's reservoir situated at the edge of the Ozark Foothills in Southeast MO. Wappapello Lake is a beautiful and rustic place bordered by the Mark Twain National Forest and the Mingo National Wildlife Refuge. When not busy with school or sports, Josh worked alongside his Dad H.B. Null in the family excavation business, which involved running heavy equipment, pouring concrete, and, more often than not, having a shovel in his hands. In 1993, Josh graduated Valedictorian from Puxico High School and enrolled at Missouri State University (Southwest Missouri State, at the time) in Springfield, MO. Josh attended college on an academic scholarship and earned a Bright Flight scholarship for his ACT score. In 1998, Josh graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Economics and Business Management, earning his Bachelor of Science degrees in both. After college, Josh spent a couple of years working in a corporate setting before embarking on an entrepreneurial career that eventually led him to enter the financial services industry in 2009.

In 2018, after many years in the financial services industry, Josh decided to go independent and founded Gulf Coast Financial Advisors. His mantra has always been, "There is a Better Way." The investment world has changed dramatically over the past 20 years, yet many "advisors" are still offering the same cookie-cutter solutions to their clients, often with an upfront brokerage commissions that disincentives the advisor from giving the client adequate attention over the long haul. Also, many advisors remain planted in the world of selling products through high-pressure sales tactics. Josh believes that the best way to serve his clients is in a transparent fee environment, with no sales quotas, and in an open and honest relationship where he and the clients are part of a team. Josh also believes that a financial advisor should ultimately have one boss: the client.

Josh is also the host of the Every Dollar Counts podcast, a weekly show dedicated to those serious about their financial plan and desire to learn more about how the financial industry works. The podcast has grown significantly in listener downloads and is proud to be a featured show on the Advisor Hub's Podcast Network. Josh is a frequent speaker at various conferences and online events, particularly on how he has used social media, his website, and a local online presence to build a brand and start an independent financial planning practice from scratch with no natural market. Josh also appears as a guest on podcasts and webinars - see our "We Made the News" page for his recent appearances.

On a personal level, Josh married his soulmate, Jennifer Null, shortly after graduating college. They and their three children, Payton, Ashton, and Josephine, live in Fairhope. Josh and Jennifer are members of Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, where their children also attend school. Their family is heavily involved in sports, school, and church activities. Their family also greatly enjoys taking their center console out on all of the wonderful waterways of Lower Alabama and spending as much time as possible outdoors.
